Design Wall, July 2

     I love this pattern!

I was lucky to be able to take the Smith Mountain Morning class from Bonnie Hunter when she was in Columbus in May. Unfortunately, this is all I've been able to get done in the six weeks since. Three lousy blocks besides the four I made in class! It's not that I don't want to make it, other projects have intervened.
Namely, the Linus Project. A group of us decided to make some of these in memory of a friend we lost way too soon. We wanted to make quilts for bigger kids and boys, since that's an ongoing need.

That top is done, the back is pieced and the binding is ready. I used fat quarters I already had, but I bought the sashing and cornerstone fabric. I used a pattern called Squareville, designed by my friend, Becki. Quick, easy and fun. I hope some young person will love it. It's really bright, but kids like bright, right?

This also fulfills my ongoing desire to make more donation quilts this year.

I'm linking up to Design Wall Monday. Check out the incredible eye candy there!

  1. Smith Mountain is looking great. What a perfect time of the year to work on a patriotic colored quilt. The little bits of yellow in the star centers really makes them sparkle.

  3. Oh dear -- I really like that Smith Mountain. . . could it end up on my I want to make list? Probably. Yours is especially nice in those colors. Great charity quilt. There is always a need for bigger kid quilts. People get in the routine of making smaller quilts and baby designs. It is nice to be reminded of the need for bigger kids too.

    1. Our guild chair is constantly asking us for bigger quilts. It's fun and easy to make th smaller ones, but she always needs bigger ones too.

  4. Three more blocks is three more blocks, so I say celebrate progress :) Love your color choices.

The donation quilt is really good looking! I like that unusual sashing color with the brights. Nice!

    1. I originally thought I wouldn't use sashing on this, but it was sooo bright without it. I picked the burgundy because it wasn't in any of the prints, but I thought it would play nicely.

  5. Great looking quilt. It reminded me of one of my UFO's that needs more work. I make quilts for QOV and have several ongoing ones at different stages too. I know the feeling about not having time to work on everything. You'll get it done -- one block at a time -- even if's it one a week! Keep up the good work.

  8. Sometimes progress is slow, three blocks is three blocks, plus you have a pretty stunning donation quilt almost done. Beautiful projects, both of them.
