Pictured above is a fabric challenge issued by my friend Sophie. She gave everyone in our sewing group one of these panels as part of our Christmas exchange. I've had this on my design wall for 2 months now and have no idea what I should do with it. I've considered a log cabin border -- maybe wonky? -- and also diamonds on point for another look. I want something Oriental-looking.
I guess I'd better start researching some border books. Maybe something will "speak" to me.

What to do?

I have that exact panel. Love it but have no idea what I will do with it either. I'm interested to see what you come up with.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to get an idea or two from kind readers. Maybe.
DeleteMaybe a containment border, followed by a border of leaves, vines or flowers, followed by final border of butterfly fabric. Or variations thereof.

Good ideas! For some reason, I wasn't thinking of applique.
DeleteIf you want it to look oriental my thoughts are to do square in a square blocks as the borders featuring various oriental prints of your favorite colors. I think I would have the outer square be black. After that I would have to see it to suggest any further.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion on my binding! I found it out the hard way though because I finished my quilt this past Sunday and had already cut the binding and it dawned on me that it wasn't the way I had pictured. I thought about trying to re-do it, but kind of like the long stripes.
